a prison in Northern Ireland where many prisoners, both Protestant and Roman Catholic, were kept for ↑ terrorist crimes. The ↑ H-Block s were part of the Maze prison. It became well-known in the 1980s because many prisoners went on ↑ hunger strike . The prison was closed in 2000.
