(1891–1944) a German military leader in World War II who was known as the Desert Fox, and who won important battles in North Africa and Egypt, but was defeated by ↑ Montgomery at ↑ El Alamein in 1942. He was part of a secret plan to kill Hitler, and when this failed he killed himself.
