(1874–1946) an American writer, poet, and ↑ playwright (=someone who writes plays) who spent much of her life in France and who was an important supporter of writers and artists such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Ernest Hemingway. She was a ↑ feminist and had a ↑ lesbian relationship with Alice B. Toklas. Her works include Four Saints in Three Acts , An Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas , and The Mother of Us All .
