condition where the level of red blood cells is less than normal or where the haemoglobin is less, making it more difficult for the blood to carry oxygen
haemolytic anaemia = anaemia caused by the destruction of red blood cells
iron-deficiency anaemia = anaemia caused by lack of iron in red blood cells
pernicious anaemia or Addison's anaemia = disease where an inability to absorb vitamin B12 prevents the production of red blood cells and damages the spinal cord
splenic anaemia = type of anaemia where the patient has portal hypertension, an enlarged spleen and haemorrhages, caused by cirrhosis of the liver
