PYROGALLOL

[py.ro.gal.lol] n [ISV pyro- + gallic (acid) + [1]-ol] (1876): a poisonous bitter crystalline phenol with weak acid properties that is obtained usu. by pyrolysis of gallic acid and used esp. as a mild reducing agent (as in photographic developing)
