Amazon + -ess, the feminine suffix. One of a fabulous race of female warriors in Scythia who is a female; as opposed to one of a fabulous race of female warriors in Scythia who is a male. Example: In English language, the term Amazon is feminine. The suffix -ess is also feminine. Thus, the invented word Amazoness is a redundancy.
