Dirt, debris, usually a small but offending blemish or smudge. Accent is on second sylable. Origin: cross-pollination of the sounds of Yiddish and Italian. Example: 1. Get me the Visine. I got some shmongotz in my eye. 2. Wash your hands; I don't want any shmongotz on my CDs.
