(verb, intransitive) 1. to be high off drugs 2. to not be thinking correctly The first usage is used more than the second. The second usage refers to when someone makes a mistake. It follows or takes place of "Oops". "Oops, sorry, I must be tripping." "She's wrong. She's trippin." It is mostly used by African-American groups and may not even be known outside of California.
