(c 200-258) Wealthy lawyer who was converted because of his disgust with this evil world. Bishop of Carthage; contributed to doctrine of the church; believed in the equality of all bishops in spite of Rome's exclusive claims; said "He who does not have the Church for his mother cannot have God for his Father"
