RADAR REFLECTIVITY

Is a measure of the amount of microwave energy reflected by precipitation or other particulates in the atmosphere. It depends primarily on the type of precipitation and its size. Radar reflectivity is simply a measure of the radiation returned from a given surface to that sent out incident upon the surface. This energy is converted into a logarithmic (base10) unit so that a wide range of reflectivity can be expressed with a short number scale.
