RADIATIVE COOLING

Meaning of RADIATIVE COOLING in English

The process by which the surface of the Earth (and the air in contact with it) cools by the emission of longwave radiation. More radiative cooling can occur when atmospheric greenhouse gasses (such as water vapor or droplets and carbon dioxide) exist in smaller concentrations. The air is limited to cool only to its dew-point temperature. This happens at night when the longwave emission cannot be offset by insolation.
