STRATUS CLOUDS

The word stratus means layer. Stratus clouds are layer clouds, usually associated with clouds in the mid and high latitudes. Typically, stratus clouds will form along the fronts of depressions, and bring bands of prolonged rain. Stratus cloud at ground level is experienced as fog.
