: a fragrant liquid unsaturated tertiary alcohol C 10 H 17 OH that occurs both free and in the form of esters in many essential oils and that exists in dextrorotatory form obtained especially from bois de rose oil or coriander oil, in levorotatory form obtained especially from Mexican linaloe oil and the oil from a Japanese cinnamon, and in racemic form obtained by isomerization of geraniol or synthetically all optically isomeric and all used in perfumes, soaps, and flavoring materials
