a white, crystalline, aromatic powder, C 13 H 10 O 3 , produced by the interaction of salicylic acid and phenol, used as a preservative, a light absorber in suntan preparations, and in medicine chiefly as an antipyretic and as an antiseptic. Also called phenyl salicylate .
