RASTER

(n.) A rectangular grid of picture elements, or pixels. The frame buffer stores the graphical data to be displayed on the raster. Raster operations (or ROP ) can be performed on some portion or all of the raster. Such operations efficiently handle blocks of pixel data. For example, bit BLT s move blocks of bits from one portion of the frame buffer to another.
