Czech writer.

He published 16 volumes of short stories before World War I, when he became a prisoner of war. After his release he devoted himself to writing a six-volume war novel, The Good Soldier Schweik , but died after completing only four volumes (published 1921–23). Even in its incomplete state, it is considered one of the world's masterpieces of satire.
