CRICIMA

city, southeastern Santa Catarina state, southern Brazil, on the coastal plain, at 154 ft (47 m) above sea level. The city was made the seat of a municipality in 1925. Much of Cricima's income is derived from the mining and export of metallurgical coal. It is connected by road to Florianpolis, the state capital, and Prto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul state. A railroad runs north to the seaport of Laguna. Pop. (1980 prelim.) 74,003.
