Meaning of GRAMPIAN in English

region of northeastern Scotland, created by the administrative reorganization of 1975, with an area of about 3,300 sq mi (8,550 sq km). It consists of the former county of the city of Aberdeen and former counties of Aberdeenshire, Kincardine, Banff, and most of Moray (qq.v.) and is divided into the districts of Moray, Banff and Buchan, Gordon, City of Aberdeen, and Kincardine and Deeside. The region's industry is diverse and includes agriculture, food processing, fishing, whisky distilling, textiles, boat building, and light engineering. Pop. (1982 est.) 490,270.
