Meaning of KINGSTOWN in English

capital and chief port of Saint Vincent Island of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, in the eastern Caribbean Sea. Located on the southwestern end of the island, the town overlooks Kingstown Harbour and is sheltered by Berkshire Hill on the north and Cane Garden Point on the south. Kingstown is relatively unvisited by tourists. Exports from its port include bananas, arrowroot, coconuts, and cotton. The Kingstown Free Library has Carib Indian relics, and the Botanic Gardens (1763), the oldest in the West Indies, received the first breadfruit trees brought from the Pacific in 1793 by Captain William Bligh (of the earlier HMS Bounty mutiny). Pop. (1989 est.) 19,274.
