In addition to undergraduate studies, North Dakota State offers a range of master's degree programs and doctoral degrees in engineering and the sciences. Research facilities include the Northern Plains Natural Resources Institute, the Northern Crops Institute, and the Robert Perkins Engineering Computer Center. Total enrollment is approximately 9,000. North Dakota State University was founded in 1890 as the state's land-grant institution, primarily an agricultural and mechanical college. The university participates in the Tri-College University academic exchange with Moorhead State University and Concordia College, both located nearby in Moorhead, Minn.
