Meaning of CITIZEN’S BAND in English

( abbr CB )

a radio system used for communicating over short distances, especially by drivers of lorries and cars. It first became popular in the US in the 1970s as a way of exchanging warnings about traffic problems and police. It was illegal in Britain until 1981. CB users give themselves unusual radio names, such as ‘Hound Dog’ and ‘Sweet Mama’.
