a British political organization that was formed in 1884 with the aim of gradually changing Britain into a socialist society. Many famous left-wing politicians and writers have been members, including George Bernard Shaw . The Fabian Society was one of the groups responsible for creating the Labour Party . It still has many important members, but its influence on the Labour Party is not as strong as it used to be.
