a US government police organization that investigates national crimes. It is also responsible for the safety of the country from international enemies. It publishes a ‘10 Most Wanted List’ of the most dangerous criminals. The FBI, which is part of the US Department of Justice, was created in 1908 as the Bureau of Investigation, and took its present name in 1935. See also Hoover .
