PLYMOUTH ROCK

Meaning of PLYMOUTH ROCK in English

a large rock on the coast of Plymouth, Massachusetts , where the Pilgrim Fathers probably landed in 1620, although there is no proof. In 1774, the rock split while it was being dragged into the town of Plymouth as a symbol of freedom from the British. It is now back in its original position, under a protective roof. Next to it is the Mayflower II , a copy of the Pilgrims’ original ship that was sent as a gift from Britain in 1957.
