( in Britain ) any of several MPs who are responsible for keeping discipline among the MPs belonging to their party, making sure that they go to debates and advising them how to vote. In the US Congress there are also Whips for each party. The House of Representatives has a Democratic Whip and a Republican Whip, and each has many assistants. The Senate Whips are called Assistant Majority Leader and Assistant Minority Leader, and each is assisted by four senators .
