GRASSED SWALE

An earthen conveyance system in which the filtering action of grass and soil infiltration are utilized to remove pollutants from urban stormwater. An enhanced grass swale, or biofilter, utilizes checkdams and wide depressions to increase runoff storage and promote greater settling of pollutants.
