(d. 755) Leader of a revolutionary movement in Khor 0101; s 0101; n whose efforts brought down the Umayyad dynasty .
Born into the maw 0101; l 012B; (non-Arab Muslim) class and of humble origins, he met an agent of the 02BD; Abb 0101; sid family while in prison (741). After his arranged release, he was sent to Khor 0101; s 0101; n (745746) to instigate a revolt. Recruiting from various discontented groups, he succeeded in overthrowing the last Umayyad caliph, Marw 0101; n II (750), and was rewarded with the governorship of Khor 0101; s 0101; n. His popularity led the second 02BD; Abb 0101; sid caliph, al-Man 1E63; 016B; r, to view him as a threat and have him put to death. See also Abb 0101; sid dynasty .
