Russian philosopher, scholar, and poet.

He studied in Berlin and spent much of his life abroad, especially in Italy, where he converted to Roman Catholicism. His first volume of lyric poetry, Pilot Stars (1903), immediately established him as a key figure in the Russian Symbolist movement , a position strengthened by later works, including the important Cor Ardens (1911). He also produced poetic dramas, essays, criticism, and translations.
