Its name derives from its founder, the S 0101; s 0101; nian king Sh 0101; p 016B; r I. One of the four great cities of the region of Khor 0101; s 0101; n , it was the residence of the 5th-century S 0101; s 0101; nian king Yazdegerd II. It declined by the mid-7th century but flourished again under the 1E6C; 0101; hirid (821873) and S 0101; m 0101; nid (819999) dynasties. It was the residence of the Selj 016B; q sultan Toghrïl Beg in the 11th century but again declined in the 12th century. The tombs of the renowned poet and scholar Omar Khayyam and the mystic poet Far 012B; d al-D 012B; n 02BD; A 1E6D; 1E6D; 0101; r are nearby.
