Wide passage between the Irish Sea and the northern Atlantic Ocean.

It extends for 100 mi (160 km) and has a minimum width of 47 mi (76 km) between Carnsore Point, Ireland, and St. David's Head, Wales. The name derives from the legend of St. George , in which he traveled to England by sea.
