Founded in 1365 on the model of the University of Paris , it is the oldest university in the German-speaking world. It was reorganized in 1384, becoming particularly noted for its faculties of medicine, law, and theology. It was a centre of revolution during the uprising of 1848, when Metternich was forced from power. The modern university includes faculties of theology, social sciences and economics, medicine, sciences, mathematics, and natural sciences.
