AKAKA FALLS

waterfall, Hawaii county, northeastern Hawaii Island, Hawaii, U.S., a central feature of Akaka Falls State Park (65 acres [26 hectares]). Easily reached by foot trail, the falls are located 12 miles (19 km) northwest of Hilo in a canyon 4 miles (6.5 km) inland from the village of Honomu on the Hamakua Coast. The falls plunge 420 feet (128 m) through dense tropical overgrowth into a pool of Kolekole Stream.
