young nobleman, cousin of Palamon in The Two Noble Kinsmen by William Shakespeare and John Fletcher. Arcite pursues Emilia more aggressively than does Palamon and before the battle he prays to Mars, the god of war, for victory. He achieves it, only to lose Emilia and his life in an ironic twist of fate.
