the young Count of Rossillion in Shakespeare's dark comedy All's Well That Ends Well. Proving noble blood does not equal noble nature, Bertram, the rude and prodigal count, avoids marriage to Helena, first claiming that he does so because of her lower rank. But he proves unequal to Helena's machinations, and in the end they marry.
