also called Moorwort (Andromeda polifolia), low evergreen shrub, of the heath family (Ericaceae), native to bogs in northeastern North America, northern and central Europe, and northern Asia. The plant grows 30 to 60 centimetres (1 to 2 feet) tall and has a creeping rootstock and green leaves about 3 cm long. The small white flowers grow in small terminal clusters.
