A western residential suburb southwest of Chicago, it was founded in 1892 by Samuel Eberly Gross, a land promoter, and originally called Grossdale. It was renamed in 1905. Its major attraction is the Chicago Zoological Park, popularly known as Brookfield Zoo. Inc. 1893. Pop. (1990) 18,876.
