CHARI-NILE LANGUAGES

also called Macro-sudanic Languages, branch of the Nilo-Saharan family of languages spoken in an area extending from southern Egypt to northern Tanzania and from Ethiopia and Kenya to Chad. The Chari-Nile branch is usually divided into four subbranches: Eastern Sudanic (including the Nilotic and Nubian subgroups), Central Sudanic, Kunama, and Berta.
