Meaning of CHINCHILLA RAT in English

any of several species of small ratlike rodents that constitute the genus Abrocoma in the family Abrocomidae (order Rodentia), and which are sometimes known as chinchillones, or rat chinchillas. It is found in rocky, often inaccessible areas of the Andes of South America and lives, apparently in small colonies, in tunnels or among rock crevices. It is vegetarian and able to climb trees. The chinchilla rat is 15 to 25 cm (6 to 10 inches) long, excluding the ratlike tail. Distinguishing features include a pointed head, large eyes and ears, and soft, chinchilla-like fur that is grayish above and paler on the belly, feet, and tail.
