DELPHIN CLASSICS

Meaning of DELPHIN CLASSICS in English

an edition of the Latin classics prepared in the reign of Louis XIV of France. The series was supervised by Pierre-Daniel Huet from 1670 to 1680, when he was working with Jacques Bossuet, tutor to Louis XIV's son, the dauphin Louis. The name of the series was derived from a Latin inscription on the title page of the books, in usum serenissimi Delphini (for the use of the most serene Dauphin).
