born c. 1675 died c. 1710 French dancer, dancing master, and choreographer whose dance notation system was published in his Chorgraphie ou l'art de dcrire la danse (1700; Choreography, or the Art of Describing the Dance). Working in Paris, he collaborated with Andr Lorin, conductor of the Royal Academy of Dance; he also wrote Recueil de danses (1704; Collection of Dances), describing dances performed at the Paris Opra.
