FREDERIKSHB

Greenlandic Pmiut, or Paamiut town, southwestern Greenland, on the Atlantic coast at the mouth of 30-mi- (48-km-) long Kvanefjord and south-southeast of Frederikshbs Isblink (ice field), a navigation landmark. It was founded in 1742. Seal hunting, fishing, and sheep raising are the main occupations, and there is a weather and radio station. Pop. (1982) 2,318.
