city, Legnica wojewdztwo (province), southwestern Poland. Located on the Oder River in the Srodkowopolski lowlands of the Glogw Proglacial Valley, it received its town rights in 1253. The modern city is the railway and road centre for the northern part of Legnica province. The city has food-processing plants and factories producing electrical machinery. It is also a centre for copper electroplating. Pop. (1987 est.) 68,500.
