GRAPE-HYACINTH

any plant of the genus Muscari of the family Liliaceae, consisting of about 50 species of small bulbous perennials native to the Mediterranean region. Most species of the genus have dense clusters of blue, white, or pink urn-shaped flowers that are borne at the tip of a leafless flower stalk. The leaves are long and narrow, and the fruit is a capsule. Some species have a musky odour. Grape-hyacinths often are planted as spring-flowering garden ornamentals.
