Claudio's sister in Shakespeare's Measure for Measure. Isabella, a votary of Saint Clare, is a figure of virginal strength and uprightness in this play set in Vienna, where, as Duke Vincentio says, I have seen corruption boil and bubble. Isabella's devotion to an ideal of rectitude and purity is tested when Angelo promises to spare her brother's life if Isabella will give herself to him.
