town, suburb of Paris, in Hauts-de-Seine dpartement, le-de-France rgion, north-central France. It is bounded to the northeast by the city limits of Paris. The town has aeronautics and metallurgical industries, and it manufactures chemicals, electrical equipment, and cigarettes. Its airport (on land actually belonging to the city of Paris) was established in 1907 and is the French terminus for the Paris-Brussels helicopter service. It was at Issy that Bishop Jacques-Bnigne Bossuet and other churchmen gathered (169495) in an unsuccessful attempt to settle the doctrine of quietism (perfection in passivity of the soul). Pop. (1990) 46,734.
