Like neighbouring Kailua to the east, the Kaneohe (meaning bamboo husband) area was once the residence of the island's early kings. Local attractions include Waikalua, legendary home of a Tahitian prince who introduced the hula to the Hawaiians. Pop. (1990) 35,448.
