Meaning of LA GRANGE in English

city, seat (1828) of Troup county, western Georgia, U.S. It lies just east of West Point Lake (impounded on the Chattahoochee River). Incorporated in 1828, La Grange soon developed as an important trading centre in a cotton-growing area and was named for the French estate of the Marquis de Lafayette. Diversified agriculture and textiles now form the basis of the city's economy. Warm Springs and the Callaway Gardens are nearby recreational facilities. La Grange College was founded in 1831. Quartz is mined in the vicinity. Inc. 1828. Pop. (1990) 25,574; (1994 est.) 27,032.
