(Sanskrit: thought), in Indian philosophy, the human mind, that faculty which coordinates sensory impressions before they are presented to the consciousness. Thus, when a person sees, hears, and smells an objectthree different and not necessarily related impressionsthe manas makes certain that he is conscious that it is the same object.
