new town (French ville nouvelle), occupying parts of the dpartements of Seine-et-Marne, Seine-Saint-Denis, and Val-de-Marne and located approximately 6 miles (10 km) east of Paris in north-central France. Marne-la-Valle is one of several new towns developed outside Paris since 1965 and is intended as an urban centre to collect the population in the immediate area. Pop. (1980 est.) 26,867.
