MOROLEN

city, southern Guanajuato estado (state), north-central Mexico. It lies at 5,814 feet (1,772 m) above sea level in the Bajo region. Morolen is the commercial and manufacturing centre for the surrounding farms and ranches. Corn (maize), beans, alfalfa, wheat, chick-peas, and onions thrive in the cool climate, and livestock raising is widespread. Shoes and rebozos (shawls) are the principal manufactures. The city is situated on a highway linking Salamanca, to the north, and Morelia, the capital of Michoacn state, to the south. Pop. (1990 prelim.) mun., 47,553.
